About Amita
My journey as an artist has been an incredible adventure — a thrilling roller coaster of highs and lows. Even through moments of chaos and confusion, I can’t imagine life without my art. Since reconnecting with my creative practice in 2018, art has been a transformative force, guiding me back to a part of myself I’d nearly forgotten: the artist in me who thrived as a child. Rediscovering my inner artist has been deeply healing, especially during my struggles with an autoimmune issue, which at times forced me into stillness. Art became a healing and transformative part of that journey, helping me find resilience, reconnect with my true self, and embrace the quiet moments that brought clarity and growth.
Each time I create, a piece unfolds its own message, lesson, or theme, almost like guidance from a source beyond myself. The creative process has revealed its incredible power to heal and transform. There’s a liberating freedom that comes from aligning with our true selves — a chance to break free from limiting beliefs and shape a life filled with passion and purpose. This realization fuels both my art and my life.
Many of the messages in my work center on the freedom found in authenticity and self-connection. Sharing these personal insights can be challenging, yet I feel deeply called to do so, hoping my art and story reach those who need them. I hope my work inspires others to explore their own creativity, to connect with their inner muse, and to discover the endless possibilities within.
In the pieces where I feel led to use it, gold leaf connects me to my Southeast Asian heritage, drawing on its traditional role in art to add a sense of cultural richness and timelessness. The gold leaf brings a unique luminosity to each piece, creating a bridge between heritage and contemporary expression.
My work is primarily abstract acrylic, and as I go deeper into my practice, I find joy in exploring textures and techniques that bring a unique dimensionality to each piece. Texture, for me, is transformative; it adds depth, richness, and a sense of discovery that draws viewers in. There’s a sculptural quality to the way I layer and build up surfaces, allowing areas of the canvas to emerge almost like topography. These textured layers create an interplay of light and shadow, adding a tactile quality that invites viewers to experience my art both visually and physically.
This sculptural approach transforms a flat canvas into something alive, adding complexity and creating a dynamic presence. These textures allow each piece to tell its own story, forming landscapes of color, movement, and shape. By working freely with texture, I embrace the unpredictable nature of the creative process, capturing a rawness and depth that keeps my art evolving, inviting continual discovery within each piece.
